Job Overview: The Senior Principal Structural Engineer performs conceptual, FEED, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards. They develop creative and innovative solutions that are reliable and cost-effective for problems and challenges when they arise. Also, they apply expertise to the most complex problems while managing their own time to meet objectives, and (as Lead Engineer) forecast and plan resource requirements. They are responsible in developing and managing plans to achieve business objectives, and clearly communicate and explain highly complex ideas and anticipate potential objections; influencing outcomes. Essential Qualifications and Education: Bachelor Degree or Master Degree in Engineering 20 yrs in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant predominantly performing detail design Preferred Qualifications and Education: Preferably Registered Professional Engineer or member of professional engineering society as applicable. Seasoned knowledge of engineering standards and specifications. Good knowledge of engineering software. Able to work independently. Good working knowledge of English, both oral and written. HSE, TQM and cost conscious. Good technical structural knowledge. Good organizer, motivator and supervisor. Keen on improving effectiveness of the work. Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to: The reassignment to other departments/construction sites/fabrication yards. The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays. The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workload (also other projects) when possible/desirable. The managing/learning of current working methods and software applications. The reassignment to other McDermott offices. LI-LJ1 Key Tasks and Responsibilities: When acting as Lead Engineer, in addition: Direct large Engineering team as a Lead Engineer on most unique and complex projects. Lead the Discipline engineering design of the assigned work area and complete within planned schedule and budget, in accordance with standards, MDR and project-specific procedures and to a high professional standard. Ensure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identified. Maintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying any required corrective action. Act as project representative for the Discipline during meetings with Project Team, Customer discipline lead and relevant agencies such as certifying authorities, auditors, third parties, etc. Plan, organize and direct all aspects of Discipline execution on the assigned project including scope, deliverables, schedule and all manpower resources - agree allocations with the Discipline Manager. Trains/mentors other employees in the department. Assists and monitors MOPEX offices on projects. Has a good understanding of the other engineering departments. Has a good understanding of construction/fabrication yard and client requirements. Has commercial insight. Helps to maintain unifi. Prepares bids from sketching data, using experience. Supervises engineers and designers. Defines scopes of work for engineering/ construction fabrication yard. Provides engineering support as required. Prepares specifications. Manages (design) subcontracts. Review of vendor data. Prepares technical bid evaluations. Assists in furthering the department Tasks as Engineering Specialist: Coordinates, coaches and checks the work of senior and junior engineers. Conducts peer reviews on request. Provides technical assistance where required. Perform the most unique and complex problems having impact to normal practice and business. Provides others with tools and approaches to solve problems and improve processes. Explains and recommends technology design and innovation and implement them to standards and procedures. Design optimization considering client, project management and operation requirements. Prepares structural analyses and reports on calculations or performs specialist tasks (i.e. architectural designs, underground piping designs, complex foundations/structures, weight control reports, center of gravity reports). Is specialized in several fields (geo technical, steel, concrete, dynamic calculations, FEM, fatigue calculations, earthquake, blast, hydrodynamics, architectural, …). Is specialized in several design codes (EC, ACI/AISC/API, GOST, …). Checks designs for operational requirements, constructability and maintainability. Prepares project engineering guides. Maintain a professional network, inside and outside the company. Has a broad view on the market and industry policies. Tasks as Lead Engineer: Works as Lead Engineer for most large size, unique and complex EPC projects. Coaches potential lead engineers. Has full responsibility for all engineering and design work on any project. Has full control and manages work hours, materials, progress. Explains and consider plans to Engineers, project management and client. Recommend best practices for execution/improvement of the project. Works in close liaison with Design Coordinator, area leads, etc. Has extensive MOPEX experience. Proactively manages change and clearly conveys how change will impact team, project and business. Sets up all engineering computer systems. Assists Project Manager in: Preparing deliverable control. Preparing schedule. Preparing progress reports. Preparing man-hour and capital expenditure estimates. Coordinates with project management. Trains personnel under his supervision. Is responsible for discipline within the engineering group. Identifies and manages changes in scope of work. Is responsible for filing of engineering work. Gives relevant feedback to the department.
