About the OPPORTUNITY We have an exciting new opportunity for Senior Systems Engineer - Process and Tools Manager to join our Maritime Australia based in Osborne, South Australia. However, location can be flexible for the right talent. We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, Process & Tools, Maritime, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Maritime Engineering Development Environment (EDE) suitable for all projects and bids within Maritime Australia. This key role is required to: Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the current processes and tools within the Maritime EDE Develop the strategic roadmap for the Maritime EDE to support the future business needs, and Support the development and implementation of engineering strategies required as part of the Continuous Naval Shipbuilding (CNS) initiative. This role is critical for delivery of long-term infrastructure and business engineering processes to enable design and maintenance of future complex warships. The role works closely with Maritime projects, BAE Systems Naval Ships and other key stakeholders in BAE Systems to ensure that Maritime Australia utilises the most suitable industry standard design practices, and has robust plans to maintain best-of-breed systems and methods. Key responsibilities include: Support development of the strategic plan and roadmap for the engineering design tool-suite seeking to minimise both technical risk and tool obsolescence Develop and maintain the engineering frameworks, processes, standards, and specifications Identify areas of poor process and tool performance and recommend suitable improvements Drive the rationalisation of Maritime processes and tools to achieve a harmonised set eliminating duplication and waste Support the development and implementation of strategies to improve the maturity of Maritime engineering capability, as described in the CNS plan in the areas of R&T, infrastructure, processes and IP, engineering supply chain Engage with the Maritime Australia engineering lead team, effectively communicating future strategies and their associated costs and risks Engage with BAE Systems UK businesses including Submarines, Air, Maritime & Land, Naval Ships and the chief technology office to ensure Maritime Australia is aligned with the strategic direction of BAE Systems plc Participate in relevant global Corporate Councils to share best practice As the process and tools SME engage with the Maritime projects and campaigns and provide the necessary tools and systems Contribute to R&T strategies as the tools and systems SME About YOU Demonstrated experience within the engineering discipline of Naval Architecture and demonstrated experience in the application of Systems Engineering methods in complex engineering projects Qualifications satisfying the requirements for a member of the Institute of Engineers Australia or equivalent experience Experience in effective use of Engineering Processes, Tools and Infrastructure with proven ability to function confidently within a team environment Experience in identifying and rectifying process inefficiencies, and poorly performing engineering tools A good understanding of the maritime business and engineering methods as applied to the development of military equipment and services across the engineering lifecycle A good understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering processes, methods and tools A good understanding and appreciation of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Good communication skills and problem solving skill with an ability to effectively communicate with employees and customers at all levels We believe in hiring for potential, we know that some candidates hesitate if they don't tick all the boxes.
