Our Opportunity Work Location - Redcliffe WA (Relocation to Perth provided) Roster - Monday to Friday In support of Fortescue's strong focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives will be in our Heavy Industry projects whereby we will develop and test a range of technologies to power our mining fleet and rail locomotives. Based out our new Redcliffe and Hazelmere R&D facilities and reporting to the Heavy Industry Principal Electrical Systems, we are presently looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer. Key accountabilities will include: Technical Lead: Provide leadership and oversight of the product delivery electrical team in developing and delivering the complete electrical systems for the battery electric rolling stock product program, covering all phases from concept and detailed design to testing, commissioning, and manufacturing. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to safety protocols and comply with required rolling stock electrical standards and regulations. Team Management: Oversee the daily operations of the electrical team, ensuring smooth workflow and efficient task execution and priority setting. Team Development: Maintain and enhance the team structure to ensure efficiency and effectiveness among team members. Reports and Schedules: Report progress updates to the Chief Product Engineer and ensure the engineering delivery meet the project and product development cost and schedule. Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work within a large multidisciplinary engineering team, collaborating with other system leads to define and manage interfaces with electrical systems. System Analysis and Integration: Analyse system and subsystem requirements, utilising systems engineering methods to break down and assign tasks to team members. System Testing: Manage and drive system DVP&Rs to validate features/functions at system-level Quality Assurance: Deliver and present high-quality electrical design outputs at each engineering gateway review. Support and implement Quality engineering processes (system-/D-FMEA, EN50126/ISO 26262, cybersecurity, field and development issue resolution). Design Reviews: Participate in detailed design reviews and evaluations, for major milestones, such as Systems Definition Review (SDR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR). Approval of Deliverables: Review and approve electrical designs, drawings, specifications, and scope documents produced by the team. Resource Management: Identify resource and capability gaps, reporting to Principal Electrical Engineer for recruitment, training or HR requirements. Qualifications and skills required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline. Over 15 years of experience in a product development environment and industry. Product Development & Systems Engineering: Strong understanding and experience with systems engineering with product development background. (essential) Technical Leadership: Proven delivery team leadership and mentorship experience. (essential) HV DC Systems: Expertise in high-voltage DC ( 120 V) electrical systems design. (essential) Safety: Strong understanding of product and electrical safety.(essential) Battery Systems: Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or battery electric powertrains is highly advantageous. Rolling Stock Design: Familiarity with rail rolling stock design and standards is highly advantageous. Manufacturing Knowledge: Experience with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM), Design for X (DfX), and manufacturing processes is highly advantageous. Requirement Management: Proficiency with requirement management tools such as DOORS or Polarion is highly advantageous. Communication Skills: Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
