Roster: Monday to Friday Fortescue is currently operating five mine sites, a port facility and is expanding rapidly into a series of development projects across Australia and overseas. In addition, the company has set impressive targets to decarbonise its operations by 2030 and become a world leader in green steel production. The Water Engineering Team plays an important role in addressing Fortescue's surface water management and water systems engineering challenges for new studies, projects and existing operations. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Water Engineer / Hydrologist to come on board to primarily lead and drive high risk and complex water studies across various operation sites and major studies. As well as good technical ability, the position requires excellent inter-personal skills and the successful candidate must be adaptable, self-driven, familiar with multi-disciplinary working environment and willing to mentor others. This position offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to develop professionally across various aspects of the resource sector. The role will be Perth-based but includes opportunities for site work. Key Responsibilities Lead, project manage and coordinate technical analysis and investigations in surface water and water systems to support operation water management planning, engineering feasibility studies and projects' approval processes. This includes hydrology and hydraulic studies for flood impact assessment, water management risk reviews for mine infrastructure development, development of integrated water management strategies and closure water management. Lead and undertake challenging technical analyses, resolving surface water/water systems issues that are complex, high risk and critical to the business. Work and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive and deliver surface water and water systems study outcomes. Provide process improvement and technical mentoring to maintain team functionality. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline Relevant experience in mining water management Solid understanding of catchment hydrology, river hydraulics, flood modelling, and use of modelling tools/software (TUFLOW and RORB) and supporting spatial GIS tools/software Ability to drive and deliver positive project outcomes Excellent report writing skills including experience using Microsoft Office (or equivalent) Strong communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills Proven experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team Effective time and project management skills Western Australian Driver's Licence Understanding of approvals relating to surface water management in mining in WA Civil drainage design understanding Understanding of water infrastructure systems, pipes and pump design Our Commitment Fortescue is deeply committed to providing a safe culture that builds respect, fosters inclusiveness, and values diversity.
