The key duties of the position include The Role The Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving System Program Office (MCDSPO) is seeking an EL 1 Engineering Manager to provide engineering leadership to the Platform Systems Engineering team - mechanical, electrical and hull - associated with the Huon Class Minehunter Coastal (MHC) vessels, Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour and Mine Warfare Assets. The Engineering Manager will lead a diverse team of APS, military and contracted resources, as well as a range of Australian Industry partners. Under the direction of the Chief Engineer, the Engineering Manager will be responsible for duties and functions including: Engineering leadership and people management Planning, organising, executing and monitoring Management of Engineering Changes Management of Technical Investigations Management of risk and advice Engineering support to maintenance activities, including materiel defects Design Acceptance Representative (DAR) duties Preparation of correspondence, briefs and reports as required, and Stakeholder engagement and management. The position will require the individual to board Navy vessels on occasion. About our Team Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Systems Program Office (MCDSPO) is part of the Naval Sustainment and Shipbuilding Group within Defence. MCDSPO is responsible to Navy for providing the sustainment and through-life support of the Mine Hunter Coastal vessels, Deployable Autonomous and Robotic Mine Warfare Systems, Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour, Mine Clearance Diving and Hyperbaric Systems, and General and Specialist Dive Equipment. These systems are sustained in partnership with a number of industry partners through a variety of contracting arrangements. Our Ideal Candidate The MCDSPO is seeking candidates who have strong leadership attributes with maritime systems. Previous experience working within a Defence maritime environment would be an advantage, though not critical. This position has people management responsibilities and the successful candidate is expected to demonstrate excellent people management skills and the ability to develop and lead a cohesive and engaged team. This includes leading product discussions and meetings with stakeholders who are not under direct supervision. The ability to build and sustain productive relationships and operate effectively in a collaborative work environment is essential. The Engineering Manager will have demonstrated skills and knowledge of Defence Systems Engineering. They will engage in problem solving through good judgement, technical knowledge and sound analysis. They will operate within the boundaries of legislative, policy and regulatory framework, ensuring compliance. Over time, it is expected the Engineering Manager will perform as a subject matter expert in the role.
