Our Opportunity Location: Brisbane Roster: Monday to Friday Fortescue Hydrogen Systems is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in scope definition, detailed design, and commissioning activities of mechanical systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering mechanical system design from concept through to implementation. You will provide strategic and technical direction to the design and operation of our green hydrogen business, working within the Engineering Readiness team. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and implementation of mechanical engineering systems for the electrolyser and balance of plant across green hydrogen projects. Develop and oversee detailed design specifications, accurate 3D models, and engineering drawings for hydrogen systems. Identify and specify appropriate materials, components, and suppliers required for the construction of hydrogen systems, considering cost, quality, and availability. Perform and review thorough engineering calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate design integrity, structural integrity, and performance characteristics. Collaborate closely with operations teams to ensure seamless integration of the design intent into the production processes, addressing any design-related challenges that may arise. Collaborate with suppliers and OEMs to develop and optimize fabrication processes, ensuring efficient production and adherence to quality standards. Review and provide input on P&ID's, isometrics, 3D models, plant functional specifications, etc. Lead the establishment of project scopes of work, schedules, checklists, and reporting mechanisms to meet project needs. Ensure compliance with Australian or International Standards in all site works undertaken. Champion a commitment to zero harm by adhering to HSSE procedures, protocols, and initiatives. Qualifications and Experience Tertiary engineering qualifications in Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 10 years of detailed mechanical design experience. Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia & RPEQ strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience using 3D design software for creating designs and preparation of fabrication drawings. Prior experience in the mechanical design of components in the energy, infrastructure, and resources industry. Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and optimization in the practical application of mechanical systems. In-depth knowledge of standards and regulations associated with mechanical design. Strong leadership and communication skills to initiate and develop relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work independently, set up processes, and monitor work achievements against agreed objectives.
