The Research Fellow will conduct experimental research funded by the Australian Research Council on electrode, catalyst and electrolyte materials for advanced batteries. Build your research career at the School of Chemical Engineering in a world-class research group led by ARC Laureate Fellow, Professor Zaiping Guo. We are seeking to appoint two Research Fellows to contribute to develop next-generation battery energy systems to address key challenges nationally and internationally, in addition to providing significant performance, lifetime, and safety improvements of batteries. This project also aims to better understand the working mechanism of applied electrodes, the criteria of electrolyte selection, and their associated interfacial reactions to build up a generalized knowledge for the further deployment in commercialized batteries. It will transform early career researchers into highly skilled professionals in the fields of materials engineering and electrochemistry for energy storage and battery technology. The candidate will be encouraged to use their initiative and develop their own research programme to meet the challenges of the future. He/she is expected to take a leadership role within the team, conducting independent research, supervising research students, and engaging with collaborators. The School of Chemical Engineering is a thriving centre of learning, teaching and research in a vast range of engineering disciplines and material science. To be successful you will need: A PhD in electrochemistry, nanotechnology, chemistry sciences, material engineering or related applied science. Relevant research experience in the development of batteries or CO2 reduction, as evidenced by highly impacted research publications in leading journals and conferences or equivalent industrial experience. Considerable knowledge to develop novel materials or electrocatalysts with desired physical and electrochemical properties. Experimental expertise in electrochemical characterization, coin and other cells making and testing. Proficiency in using advanced analysing techniques, such as XRD, SEM, TEM, NMR, FTIR, Raman, XPS. Extensive experience with developing in-situ techniques with XRD, Raman, FTIR, or synchrotron-related diffraction and spectroscopy for monitoring of the dynamic reaction processes in electrodes and at electrode/electrolyte interfaces. Excellent reading and written communication skills. Potential to lead a research program in fundamental and/or applied areas addressing current battery related industrial challenges. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional and collegial manner, and to build rapport with all levels of academic and professional staff within a diverse and inclusive work environment.
