The School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences is recruiting a research fellow to work on next generation network security technologies. Join a world-class research group to work on a project developing provable network security methods that use higher-order graph-based abstractions to model networks and network security problems. Scalable algorithms developed for these models are then used to generate, check, verify and correct network/device configurations for correctness and security issues. The same framework will also be used to predict and plan security countermeasures. The successful applicant will work closely on theoretical and algorithm development and implementation, assist on dissemination (project deliverables, publications, etc.) across multiple related projects. You will have a strong work ethic and the ability to work well independently and as a member of a broader team. You will work closely with collaborators and co-investigators across multiple schools within SET. You will also be fluent in written and spoken English, with an ability to communicate scientific ideas to an expert audience, both orally and in writing. To be successful, you will need: To have or about to complete a PhD in related fields such as computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics; Candidates without a PhD who hold the equivalent skills and experience in related topics may also be considered. Demonstrated experience with Python, NetworkX; Demonstrated experience with Web development; Demonstrated experience with IP networking; The candidate must also be To be eligible to hold a Commonwealth of Australia Department of Defence security clearance; Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a professional and collegial manner, and to build rapport with all levels of academic and professional staff within a diverse and inclusive work environment; and Commitment to the principals of equity, diversity and inclusion. Experience and knowledge of the following skills will be beneficial for the role: System and network security including active directory and operating system Machine learning and statistical inference Software Defined Networking, in particularly OpenFlow or P4 and one of the controllers written in Python such as Pox, Ryu or OsKen; Network emulation and virtualisation using LXC or Docker; IP allocation themes, DNS implementation schemes, ACL concepts, configuration of various network protocols and services using open source software (ie. bind, ffr, iptables, Apache, Open vSwitch) Knowledge and some experience with developing higher dimensional visualisations; You will also have opportunities to develop your skills in these areas as part of your professional development.
