What you'd be doing in this role As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve. As our new Staff Frontend Engineer you will work on bringing the bleeding edge of AI technology to our core editing experience. As the frontend leader in the team you will lead the frontend technology direction of our roadmap in collaboration with other engineers both inside and outside the team. Design, develop and deploy solutions to challenging Design AI problems - working closely with ML engineers, backend engineers, frontend engineers, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our users Collaborate and influence the direction of adjacent teams across Canva to deliver on the teams goals Gain deep experience and understanding of how Canva's core editor works Primarily work in the frontend with Typescript, but may need to work with other languages and environments Facilitate knowledge sharing and optimally advocate for engineering needs to non-technical team members within the organisation You will drive the technical architecture for large, cross-team, and cross-group initiatives and projects from ideation to completion, with autonomy and independence of decision making. Find opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new insights and improvements that help achieve our goals You're probably a match if You are experienced in technical leadership in highly complex and ambiguous domains Proven track record in delivering product engineering goals in the AI/ML space Our frontend stack consists of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, TypeScript, MobX, etc Experience in some of these would be valuable but is not required. Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others. Good written and verbal communication skills. Experience or interest in Machine Learning and/or Design.
