About The Role: Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with a robust background in Defence naval engineering and auxiliary systems to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in naval engineering and auxiliary systems, acquisition projects, and design concepts, with a deep understanding of naval ship designs. Experience with combat systems will be considered a plus. The successful candidate must also be well-versed in the systems engineering process. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and integration of mechanical and auxiliary systems for naval ships. Manage acquisition projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and technical specifications. Develop and review design concepts for naval engineering projects, ensuring compliance with Defence standards and regulations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other shipboard systems. Provide technical leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of naval mechanical systems. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address potential issues in mechanical design and integration. Ensure rigorous adherence to the systems engineering process throughout the project lifecycle. Oversee the preparation of technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and integration reports. Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including Defence clients, to ensure project objectives are met. Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. Qualifications and Experience: Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1. (mandatory). Must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Extensive experience in Defence naval engineering and auxiliary systems. Proven experience in naval acquisition projects and design concepts. Strong background in naval ship designs. Experience with combat systems is a plus. Thorough understanding of the systems engineering process. Demonstrated leadership experience in an engineering environment. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in relevant engineering software and tools. Desirable Skills: Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies. Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
