Job Description Due to continued growth, DEWC Services is actively expanding its data engineering team to work at the forefront of cutting-edge defence technologies. We have multiple opportunities available for Data Engineers at various levels, with a focus on the design, deployment, and maintenance of data stores/lakes, as well as implementing different data architectures. More Specifically, You Will: Design, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable data stores and data lakes to support various defence-related projects. Implement different data architectures, ensuring efficient data processing, storage, and retrieval. Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into effective data solutions. Develop and manage ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure the smooth ingestion and transformation of data from various sources. Monitor and optimise the performance of data stores and data pipelines to ensure high availability and reliability. Ensure data quality and integrity through comprehensive data validation, cleansing, and auditing processes. Implement data security measures and best practices to protect sensitive information. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data solutions with other systems and applications. Utilise infrastructure as code tools like Terraform to manage and provision data infrastructure. Stay updated with emerging data technologies and industry trends, advocating for their adoption where beneficial. Have opportunities to undertake professional development, internal research and development, and work with a senior mentor. About You At DEWC Services, we value integrity, passion, and self-motivation in line with our company values above all, but to develop your skills we require: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Proven experience in data engineering, with demonstrable skills in designing, deploying, and maintaining data pipelines, stores and data lakes. Strong understanding and experience with different data architectures, including relational and non-relational databases. Strong understanding of programming languages such as Python or Scala. Proficiency in ETL processes and tools, ensuring efficient data ingestion and transformation and strong SQL skills and experience. Proficiency in implement and managing data versioning, data governance, and lineage tracking using cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud). Experience using S3 for data storage, retrieval, and management, and integrate S3fs for seamless file system access. Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) and data warehousing solutions. Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform. Knowledge of data security principles and best practices. Current or reinstatable AGSVA security clearance (desirable).
