About the Role This is a Fixed term role until 27th June 2025 The Traffic Engineer role sits within the Movement & Safety team within the Inner Metro Branch of Metro Transport Division. This team plays a critical role in collaborating with a range of internal and external stakeholders (including the community) to better understand transport network problems and determine solutions that also align with Safe System principles and Movement & Place aspirations. This includes making decisions with understanding and alignment with broader transport network objectives and working with internal partners to help guide project pipeline priorities. The role of Traffic Engineer will provide sound advice to internal and external customers on complex matters relating to road safety, traffic, and road design standards while promoting a culture of innovation. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on various and moderately complex transport and safety matters under broad supervision and coordinate internal teams where required. Work with key internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions to moderately complex transport and safety problems while aligning with key strategic objectives. Understanding community and stakeholder needs to determine matters of importance and prioritise effort and workload accordingly to meet agreed timeframes and quality standards. Coordinate the development and delivery of network safety and operational improvements in accordance with relevant road safety standards and DTP procurement systems. Interpret standards and guidelines and apply problem solving approaches and judgment in response to transport and safety matters under broad supervision while challenging traditional thinking where appropriate. We are looking for a candidate with strong interpersonal skills who can understand and empathize with stakeholders, tailoring communication to their needs. The ideal candidate will effectively manage stakeholder relationships, addressing issues constructively and ensuring satisfaction. They should have foundational skills in critical thinking and problem solving, using guidelines to resolve issues and seeking guidance when needed. The ability to influence and persuade stakeholders to add value and link them with other areas is essential. Additionally, the candidate should have a foundational understanding of project delivery, with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain accurate records using approved tools.
