The primary purpose of the role is to utilise senior competence in traffic and transport engineering to provide excellent written responses to externally funded project design applications to meet the need and demands of a growing Metro Melbourne region. Typical projects include complex signalised intersections and developer funded road network upgrade projects. The proposals put forward by external stakeholders and developers will need to be accurately assessed using your own initiative and advanced technical knowledge to subsequently endorse in accordance with corporate guidelines, standards, specifications, and industry best practice. The role also includes leading the development of innovative responses to various and complex projects, in a changing road network to ensure safety and network operability. The secondary purpose of the role will also require acting in the team leader role as required to guide the team and support development of processes for continuous improvement. Position Outcomes Provide advice to consultants/external parties planners to ensure the review of externally funded projects achieve the safe and functional use of the road network, while using well developed specialist traffic engineering knowledge, including the ability to use and interpret SIDRA reports and road safety audits. Provide well developed traffic engineering advice to Regional Management and other key agencies to ensure that DTP is contributing to the achievement of the Government’s metropolitan traffic and transport objects across the arterial network, whilst working closely with proponents of externally funded projects. Apply creative and advanced problem-solving skills to review and respond to development access solutions, applying current standards and guidelines, to ensure DTP’s continued safe and efficient use of the road network. Negotiate with and influence key stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes for DTP and the community regarding complex development proposals on the arterial road network. Apply highly developed skills in collaborating with team members to achieve completion of project reviews within the agreed performance timeframes, and when required attend and support less experienced team members. Apply well developed traffic engineering knowledge when working with key internal and external stakeholders on the assessment of traffic engineering aspects associated with complex projects within Precinct Structure Plans. Where guidelines are not available, analyses ideas available and acts through self, or in consultation with others to resolve problems. If required, determine additional information needed to make informed decisions. Data Literacy (Applied): Considers data sources, collection and structure impacts in the delivery of data analysis. Generates descriptive statistics and relevant data visualisation leading to decisions under the guidance from subject matter experts.
