Transport Services is a Group within the Department of Transport & Planning (DTP) and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable and accessible transport infrastructure and services to all Victorians. Gippsland and Capital Delivery Division in Transport Services Group is responsible for delivering a better transport experience connecting regional communities, business and visitors. External Works is a team within Gippsland Region and is responsible for managing the risks associated with third parties proposing to and conducting works on or near the regional transport network. We’re focused on outcomes that deliver more choice, connections and confidence in our travel, ensuring the whole transport network works as one to deliver better services and outcomes. About the Role The role sits within the Gippsland Region’s External Works team. The External Works Engineer will manage the review and endorsement of designs for assigned developer funded road and bridge work projects and will exercise independent professional judgement to provide high quality advice to developers and external parties to ensure that activities undertaken by third parties, including road and bridge works and other activities on or near the road transport network, are safe and are in accordance with DTP standards, policies, and guidelines. The role also requires the provision of high-quality advice to internal DTP teams within the Region and the State. Construction sites are located throughout regional Victoria. A valid driver's licence is a prerequisite, as the role may involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel. The role is situated out of the Gippsland Region - Traralgon Office, located approximately two hours south-east of Melbourne. Gippsland offers a variety of natural attractions like nowhere else in Victoria. Unspoilt beaches, pristine rainforests, snowfields and hiking & riding trails are found in the region and provide backdrops to wineries, food producers and festivals for residents and tourists to indulge in all year long. Regional attractions include Phillip Island, Gippsland Lakes, Wilsons Promontory, Walhalla, Buchan Caves, and a range of National Parks such as Baw Baw, Tarra Bulga and the Alpine National Park. ‘To access the Position Description, please click here’. Position Outcomes This role involves exercising independent professional judgment to review and provide feedback on road and bridge work designs, ensuring compliance with standards and permit requirements, and managing the endorsement of these designs for construction approval. It also includes conducting research and analysis on project status, managing risks, and ensuring contractor adherence to technical and safety standards, while supporting a safe and inclusive team environment.
