They are the largest supplier of optical communication components and subsystems in the world. Our Client is seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our team in Sydney. Here's what you'll do: Design innovative automated equipment for manufacturing of cutting-edge optical communications devices. Specify vision systems for assembly and inspection applications down to micron level. Utilise high-tech components such as precision manipulators, optical instruments, robots and lasers. Collaborate with R&D and NPI to bring new product developments to life. Upgrade or redesign existing equipment to improve yield or throughput. What we are looking for: Essential: Experience designing automated equipment from concept, including 3D modelling and detailed drawing. Experience with sensors, electric motor control and pneumatics. Excellent attention to detail. Solutions focused. Good at discussing projects both within and outside the team - to collaborate in developing solutions and to factor in stakeholder perspectives. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics. Desirable: A good understanding of machine vision systems. Some exposure to optical products, processes, or similar industrial environment. An understanding of materials used in high precision optical assemblies such as epoxies and adhesives, ceramics, low expansion metals and optical materials. Experience with Solidworks Design package and PDM system. Experience using collaborative software tools e.g., Confluence, Jira. Experience applying safety standards such as AS4024.1 (Safety of Machinery).
