Seeking a Principal Data Engineer to drive development of data processing frameworks for a known Government dept. Contract role till June 2025 with possible extension. Attractive pay rate. Work location: Parramatta, NSW 8 hours a day. 40 hours a week. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The primary purpose of the role is to provide technical leadership to deliver expert advice and services in the design and development of data products and data-related services to support the achievement of business outcomes and strategic goals. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Partner with customers and stakeholders to design, build and maintain databases, ETL pipelines and management systems and provide end to end solutions to meet business, technical and user needs to meet functional/non-functional business requirements. Manage the end-to-end delivery of innovative data management system and solution from concepts to production deployment including testing and integration. Contribute to ongoing management of data management systems and solutions including enhancements, capacity management, performance monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues. Identify, design, and evaluate process improvements to deliver automation, optimise data delivery and re-design infrastructure for greater scalability. Take technical ownership for data and data pipelines to ensure compliance with data standards, architectural standards, and achievement of business requirements. Maintain up to date knowledge of latest industry trends and innovations in data architecture and solutions to champion continuous improvement and maximise service delivery. Monitor systems, identify risk and emerging issues and recommend solutions. Collaborate with senior leaders and other customers and stakeholders. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: Experience in RDBMS products such as Oracle, AWS, RDS services (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases. Experience with Graph Database products, API frameworks (SQL, Python) and associated big data processing libraries such as Spark. Strong knowledge of stream data processing frameworks such as Kafka and CDC solutions. Understanding of data orchestration frameworks such as AirFlow. Knowledge of data warehousing technologies such as AWS Redshift. Tertiary qualified professional in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
