The Opportunity As the Principal Data Engineer / Architect, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and managing the data infrastructure that powers the soil carbon modelling, measurement, reporting and verification in various projects that further our business objectives and environmental mission. What you'll bring to Carbon Link As our Principal Data Engineer / Architect, you will be driving conversations, providing technical suggestions, helping make decisions and collaborating with data scientists, software engineers and stakeholders in the company. Your Responsibilities: Data Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the CarbonLink mission and objectives. Provide guidance and leadership to the working group of data science and engineering professionals. Data Infrastructure: Design, implement, and manage scalable data architectures, pipelines, and databases that support large-scale soil carbon Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV). Data Governance: Drive processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity. Oversee the collection, integration, and validation of data from various sources including sensors, satellite imagery and third-party databases. Collaborate with other engineers, data scientists and researchers. You have: 8 years in data engineering or a related field. Working knowledge of modern data processing patterns. Development of efficient automated data processing pipelines. Experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, and database management (e.g., SQL, NoSQL). Expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and big data technologies. Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data. A bachelor's or master's degree in data engineering, data science, computer science, machine learning, or a related field. Equivalent experience will also be considered. You are: Keen to learn from those around you and eager to share your knowledge with the team, fostering a growth mindset. Self-motivated and capable of working independently, taking the initiative to ensure that you have everything you need to work efficiently. Our office is located in the Brisbane CBD, Australia, and requires a minimum of 3 days in the office per week. Occasionally, you may be invited to travel to our lab or visit a customer's farm.
