The opportunity: As an Outage Engineer , you will play a crucial role in providing operational power system engineering services and National Electricity Market (NEM) analysis. Your focus will be to ensure that our transmission network operates economically, safely, securely, and reliably, in compliance with Powerlink policies and the National Electricity Rules (NER). Specifically, you will: Review and develop operational procedures and standards Perform detailed power systems analysis services Develop and maintain a library of power system contingency plans Facilitate knowledge capture and dissemination of operational knowledge throughout the organization Investigate and report on system incidents Manage network constraints and communicate limits advice to AEMO Perform power system fault level studies and maintain a library of operational strategies Analyse electricity market outcomes to provide informational input into business unit decision-making Provide technical support services to real-time operations The people you'll join: Powerlink is launching our new Advanced Energy Management System, laying the foundation for us to become the renewable grid of the future. This critical role, reporting directly to our Principal Engineer, is part of our Operations Planning team. It requires a high degree of originality, ingenuity, judgment, and expertise. We are seeking passionate professionals to help us deliver cutting-edge technologies that streamline processes, enhance customer experience, and introduce innovative ways of working. What you'll bring: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering You will bring a strong understanding of power system operations, including the ability to describe power systems behaviour, secondary systems, physical transmission elements, and their characteristics. You should have proficiency in SCADA, EMS, and other power systems modelling and analysis applications. Additionally, you should have an in-depth understanding of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and National Electricity Rules (NER). The ability to conceptualize NEM outcomes as a consequence of transmission influence is essential.
