Your why As a Principal Platform Engineer , you will play a hands-on role in building and evolving our scalable, AWS-powered platform, driving excellence in areas like microservices architecture, CI/CD, developer experience, observability, and security. You’ll design and implement foundational systems such as event-driven architectures, authentication frameworks, and reusable service patterns while optimising infrastructure for performance, cost, and reliability. Beyond technical contributions, you’ll act as a trusted mentor and coach, empowering engineers through advocacy, collaboration, and hands-on guidance. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership through influence, ensuring alignment across squads while fostering innovation and best practices. You’ll champion modern engineering standards, lead architecture discussions, and guide teams in adopting scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions. How you will spend your time Define and drive the long-term technical vision for ubank, with a focus on backend systems, DevOps practices, and security Anticipate technical challenges and opportunities 3-5 years into the future Design and guide the implementation of large-scale, distributed systems Develop proofs-of-concept for innovative financial products or services Ensure systems meet stringent regulatory requirements in the banking industry Implement advanced threat modeling and risk mitigation strategies Mentor senior engineers and engineering managers on advanced technical topics Partner with product and business leaders to identify new opportunities enabled by technical capabilities Influence product roadmaps and business strategies based on technical insights Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Play a key role in attracting and retaining top engineering talent Contribute to and participate in senior interviews and hiring decisions and engineering career growth paths What you will bring Relevant experience, or degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 10 years of experience as a hands-on technology leader, with a proven track record in backend development, DevOps, and security You must have broad technical skills in multiple programming languages and must be passionate about coding and technology Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems Deep expertise in cloud technologies, particularly AWS services (e.g., Lambda, EC2, EKS, SQS, RDS) Strong understanding of security principles and best practices in the financial sector Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with a focus on backend technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go) Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) Strong background in database technologies, particularly PostgreSQL and distributed database systems Familiarity with modern frontend technologies to maintain full-stack capabilities Proven track record of leading major technical initiatives that directly impact business outcomes Experience in mentoring and developing senior engineering talent Strong communication skills, able to influence and align stakeholders across all levels of the organization Thought leadership demonstrated through conference presentations, publications, or patents Why ubank?
