We’re Hiring: Fire Safety Engineer – Join the Tasmania Fire Service Team The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) is at the forefront of safeguarding lives, property, and the environment across Tasmania. We are currently hiring for the role of Fire Safety Engineer, offering a unique opportunity to join a passionate team and contribute to the safety and well-being of Tasmanians. Role Focus: Provide expert advice and guidance on fire safety and fire engineering matters to Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) staff and external stakeholders, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, codes, standards, and risk management principles. Responsibilities: Provide high-level guidance on fire engineering principles, compliance considerations, and contemporary fire safety practices. Offer insights into the National Construction Code (including deemed-to-satisfy and performance-based solutions) and other building codes and standards. Support consultants and auditors in ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation. Evaluate fire engineering briefs and reports to verify the validity of fire safety designs. Develop and implement policies and plans to enhance fire safety outcomes. Support the Chief Officer in meeting statutory responsibilities related to fire safety in the built environment. Operates autonomously under the broad guidance of the Senior Fire Safety Engineer, with minimal supervision. Selection Criteria: Strong understanding of fire engineering principles, legislation, codes, and standards. Proven ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts in complex regulatory environments. Exceptional interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and represent the department professionally. Advanced research, conceptual, and analytical skills with the ability to manage projects effectively. Demonstrated ability to provide authoritative advice and make sound decisions under pressure. Qualifications and Experience: Masters in Fire Engineering (or equivalent as recognised by Engineers Australia). Eligibility for licensing as a Fire Engineer through Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS), Tasmania Current driver’s licence.
