Company Overview: Join an established and rapidly expanding coal mine operator in Central Queensland, located on the eastern edge of the Bowen Basin. The mine has been in operation since the early 1980s and is undergoing a major development to extend its operational life to 2070, including the opening of three new mining areas. The company is committed to increasing its production from 3.0 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) ROM to 4.0 mtpa ROM over the next 3–5 years by optimising mine design and targeting new areas of the deposit. The Opportunity: As part of the elite Technical Services team, the Senior Mine Engineer will focus on short-term planning and will play a pivotal role in resolving a variety of complex engineering and operational challenges. Working with the latest in mine scheduling software, SPRY, you will ensure that operations are optimised and the mine's goals are consistently met. Key Responsibilities: Report to: Technical Services Superintendent. Lead the 16-week schedule in SPRY, ensuring the effective management and optimisation of haulage models. Foster collaboration with stakeholders across CHPP, Maintenance, and Mining to ensure a comprehensive and effective mine plan. Monitor compliance against haulage and dig sequences, providing timely feedback to operations and technical teams. Ensure adherence to dig/dump designs by collaborating closely with the surveyor and ensuring GPS plans are available for supervisors and dozers. Achieve production goals by coordinating activities and managing the mining fleet to meet production targets. Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related engineering discipline, with RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer Queensland) or eligibility to obtain it. Experience: Proven expertise in strategic open-pit mine planning with a focus on short-term scheduling. Skills: Highly developed skills in mine design and scheduling, with solid people management experience, especially in roles requiring the ability to influence teams and individuals. Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a track record of delivering accurate and timely results. Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of relevant mining systems, software, and technology, with a strong understanding of operational challenges in complex geological environments. Mine Site Overview: Operation: A truck-constrained, high-intensity operation with a focus on optimising haulage. Equipment Fleet: The mine operates a robust fleet of owner-operated equipment, including Hitachi EX8000-7, Liebherr 9600, 2 x Liebherr 996B, 19 x Komatsu 830E, and 6 x Hitachi EH5000s. Geological Challenges: The complex geology requires careful planning, including modelling, geotechnical design, through-seam blasting, and intensive operation within a limited pit strike. Roster and Location: FIFO from Brisbane on an 8/6 roster. Residential options are also available for the right candidate.
