Job Description Senior DevOps Engineer Location : Sydney, CBD, hybrid (3 days in office) Package: $180,000 - $195,000 super 17% performance bonus If you like the idea of wrangling Kubernetes, cursing at Golang and generally making things faster, smarter, and with fewer production meltdowns. You might be who we're looking for. And if you're a Senior Engineer looking to make the jump to Principal, we might be who you're looking for. The job: Help devs stop breaking things – educate product teams on reliability, quality, and best practices so things don’t explode at 2 AM. Building a POC for on-demand microservice environments – think containers, parallel services, and untangling legacy spaghetti to make things actually scalable. Troubleshooting the unfixable – This isn’t just a “run some Terraform scripts” gig. You’ll be analyze large datasets, extract gold from legacy systems, and making sense of chaos. Acting as the right-hand of Nivi (your boss) – It’s a high-visibility, high-impact role. No hiding in the shadows here. ✅ Golang (or solid OOP experience and proof you can pick it up fast) ✅ Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and DevOps toolchains ✅ Linux fundamentals & open-source tools ✅ Testing, security, and monitoring (none of that “it works on my machine” nonsense) ✅ Observability, alerting, and test environments Why This Isn’t Just Another DevOps Job There are some aggressive goals for 2025/26. If you like hard problems and fast-moving teams, this is the place. Few in Australia have pulled this off. This is a first-of-its-kind challenge, with serious scope and complexity. It’s not all new tech, you’re inheriting legacy systems, massive datasets, and weird edge cases. If you enjoy untangling messes, you’ll love it here. Who You Are You get DevOps at an enterprise level - you don’t just build, you scale. You have opinions on best practices and aren’t afraid to share them. You like working with engineers, mentoring, troubleshooting, and calling out bad patterns. You don’t mind a bit of chaos and ambiguity, because this isn’t a cookie-cutter role. It's paying $190k base, you'll take home roughly $30k in bonus and work from home 3 days a week. We expect you'll be discussing promotion to Principal Engineer after your first 12 months Sound like you? Let’s chat. Get in touch with Julien Bicknell at The Onset.
