The opportunity The Boeing MQ28 - Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force, it is the first military combat aircraft to be designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia in 50 years. Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is looking for passionate Senior Systems Safety Engineer , with experience or interest in embedding Safety in design to join our MQ-28 team. We are seeking technical professionals interested in working collaboratively across an interdisciplinary and multinational team on cutting edge systems, and developing exciting new technologies, to support and grow Australia's premier Defence capability. As a Senior Systems Safety Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and implementation of safety engineering processes for complex aerospace systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks throughout the product lifecycle. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations while fostering a culture of safety within the organisation. This role is based in Brisbane. As an experience Senior Systems Safety Engineer you will:: Lead safety assessments and hazard analyses for aerospace systems and components. Lead, develop and implement safety requirements and safety management plans. Collaborate with design, systems engineering, and airworthiness team to ensure safety is integrated into all phases of product development. Lead, plan and conduct safety reviews and provide guidance on safety-related issues. Analyse safety data and trends to identify areas for improvement. Prepare and present safety documentation for internal and external stakeholders. Mentor and guide junior engineers in safety engineering practices and methodologies. Stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to systems safety. To be considered for the role you will have: Hold Tertiary qualifications in either Engineering Aerospace, Avionics, or Mechatronics, that satisfies the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust) Minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in Systems Safety engineering or a related discipline. Strong knowledge of safety engineering principles, methodologies, and tools. Experience with safety assessment techniques (FHA, FMEA, FTA, STPA). Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (e.g. MIL-STD-882E, ARP4754, ARP4761). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with aircraft avionics, software and UAV systems (essential). Experience with aerospace and / or Defence projects (highly regarded). Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
