About the Department The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. About the Division IMTD is responsible for supporting one of the largest technology networks in Victoria and leading the department's technology, digital capability, business systems and digital transformation. This network consists of Schools, Corporate and Early Childhood Education (ECE) including a school user base of more than 1500 Government schools, 50,000 teachers and 650,000 students. IMTD provides innovation and leadership in the transformation and management of the Department's digital capability through the implementation of solutions on the department's cloud environment (IaaS), enterprise cloud platforms (PaaS) and software (SaaS), using agile practices with a focus on user experience, security, and integration. About the Role We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to play a crucial role in designing and implementing complex data and information management solutions, including data integration, warehousing, business intelligence, machine learning, and analytics. In this hands-on position, you will lead the development of scalable data architectures, optimise data pipelines, and ensure seamless integration across platforms. Collaborating closely with business stakeholders, you will align data systems with organizational objectives, enforce data governance and security standards, and mentor junior engineers to foster high-performance teams. With expertise in data modeling, cloud technologies, and reporting tools, you will drive continuous innovation to enhance system performance, scalability, and support advanced analytics and enterprise data needs. Attributes Hands-on Data Solutions: Develop and optimize data collection, transformation, and integration services, ensuring smooth data flow across systems. Data Architecture & Integration: Design scalable architectures, build efficient data models, and develop ETL pipelines with API integrations. Reporting & Analytics Tools: Create and optimize reporting solutions (Power BI, Tableau), with interactive dashboards and data models for decision-making. Security & Governance: Implement data security controls, governance frameworks, and ensure compliance with best practices and regulations. Technical Guidance: Provide hands-on support and mentorship to teams, ensuring best practices and successful task execution. Innovation & Process Improvement: Drive the integration of new technologies and advanced solutions to enhance performance and scalability. Project Management & QA: Lead project roadmaps, ensuring timely delivery, quality standards, and rigorous testing of data pipelines. Collaboration & Leadership: Work with stakeholders to understand data needs and lead teams, fostering collaboration and successful data engineering initiatives. Collaborating with Stakeholders and Leading Teams: Work closely with stakeholders to understand data needs, actively participating in meetings, gathering requirements, and providing hands-on technical solutions. Lead data engineering teams by setting a hands-on example, fostering collaboration, and ensuring successful execution of data engineering initiatives. Data Modeling & ETL: Expertise in designing data architectures, creating integration models, and developing data pipelines using Python for complex transformations. Cloud Platform Expertise: Proficient in Microsoft Azure, including Databricks and Synapse Analytics, with strong SQL skills and experience in CI/CD pipelines and Agile methodologies. Integration & API Expertise: Skilled in using REST APIs, web services, and middleware like MuleSoft for seamless data integration across systems. Security & Governance: Deep understanding of data security and governance to ensure integrity, compliance, and data lineage. Reporting & Visualization: Proficient in developing interactive dashboards and reports with Power BI and Tableau, optimizing performance and supporting decision-making. Advanced Data Modeling: Expertise in methodologies like Kimball, Inmon, and Data Vault, designing scalable, high-performance data models. MDM Expertise: Experience with Informatica MDM tools to ensure data consistency and integrity across enterprise systems.
