SunCable is developing the world's largest solar energy infrastructure network, making it possible to power whole cities with renewable energy. The Role Reporting to the Head of Technical, the Principal Engineer, Power Systems is accountable for the full cycle of development, execution and commissioning of transmission systems across HVAC and HVDC, including project management assessments, regulatory and advisory support. The scope for the Principal Engineer, Power Systems covers: Technical Support: feasibility studies, conceptual, detailed design and specifications. Design and Engineering: scope development, technology selection, development and delivery planning Power Systems studies- Manage and collaborate with systems studies engineers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and consultants to assess the performance of HVDC systems and their impact on the transmission grid Develop and review technical specifications for HVDC transmission systems, ancillary equipment, and services in accordance with international standards, best practices, and relevant industry standards Working with developer teams, procurement, and legal to develop, implement and execute a viable approach for OHTL and HVDC projects in accordance with the requirements. Procurement support: Providing expert input to contracting and procurement strategies and contributing to tendering, negotiation, and selection of equipment, OEMs and key contractors Ideal Profile Experience and qualifications: Deep expertise in all aspects of OHTL, HVDC systems. MV/HV AC transmission systems, including full cycle, end-to-end project development and delivery of HVDC/HVAC transmission systems, working closely with development and project management teams. Deep experience with VSCs, switchgear and infrastructure, have operated as a key interface with domestic and international teams and been a critical contact for VSCs, and interface with Systems Integration teams. Have worked closely and effectively with systems integration team across network modelling, energy balance, DA and SG grid connections and associated interfaces with network operators, controls system philosophy/strategy, VSC technical specifications, reliability/availability assessments and optimisation. A proven track record of developing constructive relationships with key internal and external partners, stakeholders and working closely with government corporations. Experience providing effective safety and environmental leadership accountability across a project organisation made up of a diverse range of participants. Highly skilled in project team development, clarity of instructions and consensus building across owner and contract staff. Deep experience in project control methods and key metric reporting with respect to safety, cost, schedule and operability Skilled in the recognition of value improvement practices and how their application will provide the greatest value. Negotiation and execution of complex electrical engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts. Knowledgeable industry standards, legislative requirements and industry best practices. Experienced in effectively managing a complex stakeholder set across a diverse geography, including navigating the complexities of project partnership team Minimum of 2 years relevant experience is required Bachelor degree Engineering (Electrical) Professional Engineer certification desirable Relevant Masters degree desirable but not essential.
