A Senior Engineer is an experienced member of the engineering team, with extensive technical expertise. Focused on delivering on individual contributions and is relied upon to consistently deliver work even when faced with ambiguity and uncertainty. They are solution focused and will continue to solve a problem through to resolution. Mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers is a key behaviour of this role providing support to the Engineering Team Leader. Senior Engineers are expected to build collaborative relationships within and across teams and act as a lieutenant to Principal Engineers. Day to day, you’ll: • Analyse problems to develop effective solutions both independently and collaboratively. Aiming to consistently achieve successful outcomes for assigned work. • Design and develop complex features to address business needs, working with other departments to ensure scope and expectations are well defined and estimated prior to commencing work. Consistently implementing, testing and documenting complex work to a high standard. • Work with others in team to design, implement and deliver solutions to almost any technical problem. • Contributes to system maintenance and stability and looks for opportunity to improve stability of systems where possible. Must be capable of independently resolving critical issues and incidents, utilising your experience to identify and remediate issues, proactively putting measures in place to prevent reoccurrence. • Promote good practices in areas such as performance and security to help other engineers deepen their knowledge. You will need to have a solid understanding of non-functional requirements such as security and performance. • Mentoring and coaching of other team members including running training and knowledge sessions. • Understand the financial costs of running services, and reason about these when designing changes.
