Job Description About the team The Technical Office within the Planning & Delivery Team consists of specialist engineers who provide expert advice on complex engineering designs across a range of projects and on various engineering assets at Sydney Airport. Acting as internal consultants, they support the business with technical guidance, ensuring projects are designed and delivered to meet operational, regulatory, and industry standards; as well as meet Sydney Airport specific requirements. Their expertise helps drive efficient, practical, and well-engineered solutions that support the airport’s ongoing development. About role As the Fire Compliance Design Manager, Engineering, provide subject matter expertise in fire engineering and fire strategies; and support the business in achieving/maintaining building compliance to relevant regulations and standards. You will bring your expertise to support various parts of our business by: Ensuring comprehensive fire safety across all terminals and buildings, establishing extensive knowledge of existing fire strategies and maintain records of any known non-compliances. Developing strategies to improve fire safety and address non-compliances, establishing processes and procedures for construction activities to maintain building compliance, and own the Global Fire Safety Strategy (GFSS) for each terminal. Developing and maintaining design guidelines, performance briefs, standard details, and scope of services to ensure consistency across numerous projects and compliance with the latest standards for Sydney Airport. Contributing to planning and business case development through reliable asset knowledge, support the design management team in achieving design assurance and solving design problems Providing technical support during the construction phase, including troubleshooting, inspections, and staging plans. Offering operational support to the airport operations and facilities teams, coordinating fire plans with building management and local fire and rescue services. Ensuring safety and regulatory adherence across our projects. About you We are looking for an experienced Fire Compliance Design Engineer for a role that blends technical expertise with strategic vision and stakeholder engagement. We are seeking a candidate who is a continuous learner, innovative thinker, and a team player. You should excel in managing diverse stakeholders, have meticulous attention to detail, and thrive in fast-paced environments. The ideal candidate will have the following experience, qualifications and attributes: 10 years of industry experience in fire engineering and strategies within operational environments and a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Registered or accredited Fire Safety Engineer through Engineers Australia National Engineering Register or equivalent is desirable Technical understanding of relevant standards and best practices is complemented by your analytical problem-solving skills. Solid verbal and written communication skills enable you to effectively convey technical information and business cases Commitment to sustainability and safety in design Willingness to grow in technical, behavioral, leadership, and relational capabilities Proficiency in Microsoft 365. Familiarity with fire engineering software and analysis tools is advantageous.
