About us: A&Y Associates is an innovative and dynamic engineering consultancy based in Melbourne, Victoria, dedicated to delivering sustainable, high-quality civil and structural engineering solutions. With expertise in residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects, we focus on exceeding client expectations through efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible engineering practices. About the Role: We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Civil Engineer with strong civil and geotechnical capabilities to join our growing team. This position involves planning, designing, and managing civil infrastructure and geotechnical components of construction projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering site investigation reports, foundation and footing designs, and stormwater and civil infrastructure plans that comply with all relevant standards and regulations. Duties & Responsibilities: Plan, design, and deliver both civil and geotechnical components of residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects, ensuring integration of ground and structural solutions. Lead and coordinate geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, soil and rock sampling, and in-situ testing to evaluate subsurface conditions relevant to civil infrastructure planning. Analyse geotechnical data such as soil strength, groundwater levels, and site stability to inform civil foundation and earthworks design. Design and document footing systems, retaining structures, and subgrade improvements based on geotechnical assessments and structural requirements. Evaluate slope stability, settlement risks, and earth pressures and apply civil design techniques for mitigation, including drainage control, erosion management, and retaining wall structures. Develop geotechnical recommendations and ground models to support the design and construction of civil infrastructure, including roads, stormwater systems, and utility corridors, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and site-specific subsurface conditions. Prepare comprehensive reports such as Geotechnical Investigation Reports, Site Classification Reports, and Civil Engineering Design Reports. Work collaboratively with architects, civil contractors, geotechnical consultants, and approval authorities to ensure coordinated and compliant project execution. Produce and review detailed engineering drawings and documentation using tools like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, 12d Model, GEO5, and Microsoft Excel. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments encompassing both geotechnical risks and civil construction challenges, with a focus on cost and constructability.
