About the Role: This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working on small to medium scale projects that deliver real impact for clients while pushing the envelope, implementing best practice approaches and, hopefully, enjoying themselves while they do it. With a strong grasp of engineering first principles and mechanics, you should have a background in geotechnical engineering design and reporting work but are eager to expand your expertise in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment, working closely with civil and structural experts around the business to solve problems for our various clients across the Infrastructure and Buildings & Construction sectors. This opportunity allows you to blend technical knowledge with practicality, developing solutions that are Best for Project and assisting with their implementation and construction. Applicants should expect to be both challenged and supported to forge their own path, with the role not suited to those who wish to be a small cog in a large machine. What to expect day to day: Develop effective geotechnical design solutions across various scenarios and sectors. Prepare design memos/reports, implementing advice into specifications and drawing notes. Scope, price, supervise and deliver appropriate geotechnical site investigation works in support of larger design packages. Supervise or train junior personnel in site investigation works to AS1726, where required. Collaborate confidently and effectively with external partners, clients and subcontractors as well as internal stakeholders and colleagues. Assist the Geotechnical Lead in client relationship development, team training and mentoring, and fostering strong interdepartmental relationships. About you A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Masters in Geotechnical Engineering Ideally 5 - 15 years of relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering within an Australian Engineering consultancy, for either an independent specialist or multi-disciplinary team. Applicants with experience in specialist D&C contractors on the design side would also be considered. Strong technical and reporting skills in: Foundation solutions (e.g., deep foundations, rafts, piled rafts, etc.). Retaining wall /slope design (embedded, gravity, anchored, stabilised, bespoke/hybrid). Soil-structure interaction problems and structural design of geotechnical elements. Geotechnical parameter interpretation and assessment. Factual and Interpretive geotechnical report writing. Construction phase, Contractor-side or other Site experience, particularly: Temporary Works Designs, Construction Support Roles, or Management of Site Investigations and Reporting to AS1726 Proficiency in using software packages such as: Plaxis 2D & 3D / Slide2, Slope/W or equivalent Expert-level Excel or programming skills in JS, VBA, Python, etc, would be advantageous. Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards and guidelines, particularly AS1726, AS2159 and AS5100, as well as familiarity with CIRIA C760 and Eurocode 7 (Geotechnical), and AS4100 and AS3600 (Structural). Be working towards Chartered Status and Professional Engineering accreditation.
