Engineering Manager (Hardware) — Sydney, Sydney Region

Job Description A submarine navigating the ocean depths. A spacecraft far from Earth’s orbit. A rescue team searching for survivors underground. These are just a few places where GPS simply doesn't work. Without a reliable way to measure magnetic fields, these environments remain uncharted. But what if you could change that? A deep tech company is developing a breakthrough quantum sensing technology that could transform the way we navigate, detect anomalies, and explore the unknown. By combining quantum physics with advanced chip-scale manufacturing, they are building one of the world’s most precise magnetometers - and they need an Engineering Manager to make it a reality. Your Role in This Mission Leading system design and integration across hardware, software, and optics to build the company’s first deployable prototype. Guiding the transition from R&D to product—bringing structure, quality, and delivery discipline to a fast-evolving engineering program. Collaborating across domains, working with physics, embedded systems, and hardware experts to solve technical challenges in signal processing, control systems, and packaging. Setting the technical direction for future generations of the product and helping build a high-performing, scalable engineering team. Why Now? This isn’t incremental. It’s a rare opportunity to help build a foundational technology from the ground up - one that could unlock entirely new capabilities in navigation, defence, healthcare, and beyond. You’ll be joining at a time when your impact will be deeply felt: Founding engineer-level influence - Help shape the product roadmap, team culture, and engineering strategy from day one. Substantial equity - As one of the earliest technical hires, you’ll have a meaningful ownership stake in the company’s future success. Backed and globally connected - With strong funding in place and partnerships with major players across multiple sectors, we’re positioned to move fast—and execute. Mission-driven culture - Work with a multidisciplinary team of physicists, engineers, and entrepreneurs who value deep thinking, curiosity, and technical excellence. Who You Are You’ve built and delivered complex electronics-based products - you know how to take a prototype and make it robust, testable, and ready for real-world use. You’re experienced in hardware/software integration and enjoy working across disciplines to solve difficult engineering problems. You might have worked in sensing, signal processing, control systems, or instrumentation - but above all, you're a systems thinker with a hands-on approach to product development. Experience with FPGA development, embedded systems, or optics is a bonus, but not a requirement. This is a chance to help define a new category of sensing technology and build something truly lasting. Ready to make an impact? Reach out to Thaís Amorim on thaistheonset.com.au
