Network Automation Engineer (NV1) — Canberra Region, Australian Capital Territory

6 Months Contract (with the view to extend) Large Government Environment NV1 Security Clearance is required We are seeking an experienced Network Automation Engineer who will be contributing to the design, development, and integration of third-party software and hardware for a complex Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI) initiative. Based in Canberra ACT, this position is ideal for professionals passionate about automation, problem-solving, and staying at the forefront of networking technologies. Key Responsibilities: Create and implement software components for an Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) project. Collaborate with infrastructure engineers to integrate multiple third-party products into a cohesive Software Defined Data Centre (SDDC). Engage in complex design and implementation planning sessions. Participate in code reviews, implement test-driven development, and action test plans. Produce and maintain comprehensive technical, process, and system documentation. Integrate software components using CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitLab. Contribute to continuous process evaluation and enhancement. Investigate and resolve intricate development challenges. Key Requirements: Proficiency in Python for network automation and script development. Hands-on expertise with Ansible, including custom module and collection development. Strong understanding of networking principles (e.g., TCP/IP, VLANs, dynamic routing protocols, firewalls) across multiple vendors. Experience in large-scale network design and configuration. Knowledge of network and security monitoring platforms. Experience with Git and other version control systems. Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and test-driven development. Exposure to Software Defined Infrastructure (SDI) projects. Experience with Terraform for Infrastructure-as-Code deployments. Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with cloud platforms like AWS. Background in Government Secure Environments.
