The Core Infrastructure branch delivers cloud connectivity, computing (mid-range and mainframe), Data Protection and Storage Infrastructure. About the role Data Protection Engineers/Senior Data Protection Engineers take operational ownership of Data Protection infrastructure and applications providing Agency wide midrange data protection services. These services include management and administration of Dell Data Protection Suite, Data Domain software & hardware, and data protection processes for Systems and applications including Windows Server, RHEL, Solaris, VMware, OpenStack, DB2, SQL, SAP and Oracle Databases and platforms. The key function is to assist with design, build and support of Data Protection services infrastructure and application, the role also provides support of infrastructure related incidents and problems. Working under the general direction of senior staff they exercise both initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. Decision making is substantially dependent on judgement, skills and knowledge. They manage and organise their own work in the context of competing priorities and contribute to changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies. The key duties of the position include APS5 Data Protection Engineer Maintain enterprise Midrange Data Protection platforms and solutions, including installation, configuration, and ongoing support. Provide infrastructure related operational support for hardware, software and other assets. Support the Service Management process and procedures to ensure successful implementation of required infrastructure change and release packages. Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to deliver on strategic outcomes for the section. Follow procedures for prioritisation, resolution and/or escalation of infrastructure issues to ensure timely resolution. Collaborate with stakeholders including vendors to ensure effective and timely implementation of projects including liaising with vendors. Draft a range of technical documentation including design documentation, implementation plans, tests plans and support procedures. Contribute to the development and implementation of improvements and best practice in processes and procedures. APS6 Senior Data Protection Engineer Manage enterprise Midrange Data Protection platforms and solutions, including installation, configuration, and ongoing support with a view towards highly resilient, performant and reliable Infrastructure solutions and service offerings that meet the demand of infrastructure consumers. Plan and manage infrastructure related operational support for hardware, software and other assets to ensure they meet future demands and align with business objectives. This includes developing roadmaps for Data Protection Infrastructure Platforms. Managing Service Management process and procedures to ensure successful implementation of required infrastructure change and release packages. Manage and support a team including managing performance, attendance, health and wellbeing and develop staff capability through coaching, training and succession planning. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors to ensure effective and timely implementation and handover of projects, and technical support. Prioritise, resolve and/or escalate infrastructure issues to ensure timely resolution. Draft, review and maintain a range of technical documentation which may include design documentation, implementation plans, test plans, recovery and support procedures. Identify opportunities for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance scalability, performance, and agility.
