OpenShift / Kubernetes / Red Hat Engineer — Canberra Region, Australian Capital Territory

12 Month Contract 2 X 12 Month Extension Minimum NV1 Clearance Required Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide opporunity WFH Our Client, a large Federal Government Department is seeking to engage highly skilled and experienced OpenShift Engineers . The ideal candidates will provide technical support, troubleshoot problems and automate solutions to ensure stable and efficient operation of OpenShift environments, with a proven ability to lead cloud projects, mentor junior staff and integrate seamlessly into a complex, dynamic team environment. Key duties and responsibilities Design, deploy, manage, and troubleshoot OpenShift or other Kubernetes clusters in enterprise environments, ensuring high availability, reliability and scalability; Assist developers in automating the deployment, scaling, and management of containerised applications using OpenShift, utilising our GitOps platform and CI/CD pipelines for efficient service delivery; Oversee cluster management (inc. in-place cluster upgrades), resource allocation, configuration management, and capacity planning within Red Hat OpenShift environments, ensuring optimal performance and responsible resource utilisation; Develop and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Helm to support scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure; Ensure the security of OpenShift environments by implementing best practices, including vulnerability scanning, network segmentation, and role-based access control; Lead technical teams in the execution of OpenShift projects, mentoring junior engineers and managing project timelines and deliverables; Essential criteria Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related field highly desirable, or demonstrated continuous professional experience of at least 5 years in a large scale ICT environment, and additionally 3 years in a large scale kubernetes environment is a suitable alternative; At least 5 years of experience in system administering - Including experience in OpenShift/Kubernetes cluster administration. Extensive experience in Kubernetes administration - Including networking, security, storage, and troubleshooting within containerised environments. Experience in a government or highly regulated environment, with demonstrated compliance to standards such as the Information Security Manual (ISM) and Essential 8; Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or equivalent certification, or a willingness to obtain these certifications within the first 3-6 months of employment; Desirable criteria Certifications in Cloud Platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or a willingness to obtain these certifications within the first 3-6 months of employment.
