SMA Australia Pty Ltd has an opening for a Project Engineer – Advanced Inverter Capabilities. This person is an experienced specialist with advanced knowledge of power electronics with a particular focus on advanced capabilities (grid forming, inertia etc). This position will work with the Australian team to facilitate, develop and enhance the implementation of advanced inverter functionality with the Australian Market. The role will work both internally and externally, interfacing with customers, regulators as well as with the relevant stakeholders in Germany (R&D, BU, GSO etc). High level knowledge of both technical aspects, and features & benefits of SMA solutions are core. As an active member of the wider SMA team, key responsibilities are working with the Service Engineering Manager to deliver key objectives to assist customers with technical questions, connecting projects. The Project Engineer also helps to, with the support of the wider team, drive understanding and acceptance of SMA solutions in the market and if required with the regulators. This position is based in our Australian Head Office at North Sydney. Significant national and international travel required. Must be available to attend local and overseas training when requested. The tasks of this role include the following: Troubleshoots, repairs, and analyses SMA Large Scales Systems via email, telephone and when required site visits. Provides second/third level technical support and customer service for SMA’s products utilized in the LS power plant sector. Ensures a high level of internal and external customer satisfaction Coaches first level team in a defined technical area of expertise. Maintains expert knowledge of SMA’s LS system products, associated SMA accessories, and third-party accessories that are sold by SMA for use with the inverters. Documents service cases and carrying out warranty replacements. Escalation of technical issues from the region to HQ functions in Germany Passing of technical information to the region Execute Train-the Trainer Sessions on Large Scales System products in the region (trainings on commissioning, troubleshooting, repair, and analysis) Performing and directing field and laboratory tests. Collecting and analyzing data, carrying out complex computations and preparing diagrams and technical responses for both internal and external stakeholders Skills & Experience required for the position In-depth knowledge of SMA inverters and products At least 5 years previous customer service experience with a technical background, preferably in power electronic, renewable energy, telecommunication or semiconductor industries Ability to work across different functional areas and groups, both internal to SMA Australia, with all levels of management and staff. A strong ability to influence and motivate others. Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques would be supportive. Excellent skills in establishing and implementing issues resolution strategies and standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, is required. German language skills would be beneficial. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) is strongly preferred. Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are required. Ability to analyse and solve problems effectively. Qualification required for the position: A Bachelor’s degree in the area of PV/Electrical/Electronic engineering is required
