This Council offers an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Traffic Engineer to make a meaningful contribution to the local community while enjoying work-life balance. ABOUT THE POSITION We are seeking a Traffic Engineer to step into a pivotal role on a 6-month contract. This role is suited to an experienced and autonomous professional who can confidently manage a diverse range of traffic, transport, and road safety responsibilities in a Local Government environment. Working within a collaborative team of engineers and planners, you’ll provide expert advice on Development Applications, lead investigations into traffic-related concerns, and play an integral role in shaping safe, efficient, and sustainable transport networks across the municipality. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Assess Development Applications to ensure traffic, access, and parking provisions comply with planning controls, safety standards, and Council policies. Investigate traffic and transport issues including road safety concerns, congestion points, and community-raised requests, providing practical and sustainable solutions. Prepare technical reports and cost estimates to support project planning, capital works programs, and decision-making by internal stakeholders. Liaise with internal departments and external agencies such as RMS, TfNSW, and residents to coordinate responses to traffic, transport, and parking matters. Contribute to the design and delivery of transport initiatives including Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) schemes, road safety audits, and active transport strategies. Represent Council at Traffic Committee meetings , presenting technical advice, supporting policy development, and engaging with NSW Police and other key stakeholders. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering (or related field). Strong experience in traffic and transport within Local Government or consultancy. Solid understanding of NSW Road Rules, Australian Standards, and Austroads guidelines. Proven ability to assess Development Applications and traffic impacts. Skilled in technical report writing and stakeholder communication. Experience with traffic software (e.g. SIDRA, AutoCAD) is highly desirable.
