What we do The Infrastructure and Operations Division maintains national critical infrastructure for Services Australia and across government. We deliver a robust, secure, and resilient ICT environment so Australian citizens can access government services 24x7. The Telecommunications and Network Engineering branch delivers network, telecommunications, gateway, data centre facilities and cloud connectivity. The network supports large scale mainframe, mid-range and private cloud infrastructure that underpin Centrelink, Medicare, and Child Support services. Our network covers more than 1,000 locations across Australia and supports secure network and gateway services for 12 other government agencies. About the role Network Engineers are responsible for supporting and delivering network solutions for Services Australia and our shared services agencies. This includes designing, managing and supporting of agency's Data Centre network. The key functions are to assist design, build and support data centre network infrastructure capabilities both in house and in a shared service arrangement to deliver critical high availability, secure, stable solutions to staff and customers. Network Engineers work under the support and general direction of senior staff. They exercise a degree of independent judgement and make decisions within defined parameters that require some reliance on skills and knowledge. They plan their work in the context of competing priorities. The key duties of the position include Provide/assist with network design, management and support of agency's Data Centre network infrastructure including deployment of routers, switches etc. Monitor and provide operational support to ensure network systems are performing as expected and escalate/resolve any issues. Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and stakeholders. Collaborate with stakeholders including vendors in relation to managed services, incidents, issues and to provide ongoing support. May include managing and supporting a small team and contributing to development of staff capability through coaching and mentoring if required. Draft and maintain documentation including network diagrams, support procedures, reports and presentations and contribute to the development and implementation of improvements and best practice. Assist with and/or undertake deployment of changes to hardware, software and related assets.
