The Opportunity: KBR is inviting expressions of interest from experienced and driven Senior Safety Engineers to support a growing portfolio of Defence programs in Brisbane or Canberra. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the development and delivery of safety engineering services across complex systems, ensuring they meet stringent Defence, legislative, and regulatory requirements. The position is ideal for professionals passionate about system safety, risk management, and enabling safe capability outcomes for Defence personnel. The key responsibilities of the role will include, but is not limited to: - Lead and coordinate system safety activities across the capability lifecycle in accordance with Defence and Commonwealth frameworks (e.g. SECM, DEF(AUST) standards, and SEA 5000 guidance). - Conduct and review hazard identification, risk assessments, and safety analyses, including FMEA, FTA, SWIFT, and HAZOP. - Develop, review, and maintain safety documentation including, System Safety Program Plans (SSPPs), Hazard Logs, Safety Case Reports and Safety Assessment Reports. - Work closely with engineering teams, integrated project teams (IPTs), and stakeholders to ensure safety is effectively integrated into design and sustainment activities. - Provide subject matter expertise in safety and risk engineering, supporting design reviews, assurance activities, and platform integration assessments. - Support internal governance and audit processes, ensuring alignment with applicable Defence legislation, policies, and operational safety expectations. As the ideal candidate you will bring: - Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, preferably with a focus on Safety, Systems, or a related discipline. - 5 years' experience in a safety engineering role within Defence, Aerospace, Maritime, or a similarly regulated technical environment. - Strong working knowledge of relevant safety standards (e.g. MIL-STD-882E, ISO 31000, IEC 61508, DEF(AUST) 5679). - Demonstrated experience preparing and maintaining safety artefacts and supporting safety case development. - Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with an ability to present safety issues clearly and confidently. - Proficiency in the use of safety tools and data analysis systems. - Australian Citizenship is required due to security clearance requirements. - NV1 clearance (or eligibility to obtain) highly regarded. .
