Lead AI Engineer / Data Scientist - GenAI - Up to $200K Super 10% Bonus — Sydney, Sydney Region

The Opportunity Our client is a dynamic startup passionate about driving human progress through AI and automation. Based in their Sydney CBD head office, they’re seeking a talented Lead AI Engineer / Data Scientist to join their fast-paced team. This role is for an experienced professional ready to step into a leadership position and shape an ambitious AI strategy. You’ll join a technically skilled team to design and deliver innovative AI solutions, with a focus on Generative AI for enterprise use. The salary is $180-$200K Super 10% Bonus ESOP with a hybrid work model (3 days a week in the office). What You’ll Do Lead the creation and execution of AI strategies to meet business objectives. Design and implement data science and engineering solutions, including machine learning models and data pipelines. Spearhead Generative AI projects to tackle complex challenges and create new possibilities. Manage and mentor implementation teams while collaborating with sales, marketing, product, and delivery stakeholders. Navigate the evolving AI landscape, testing and applying the latest tools and frameworks. Turn AI insights into actionable recommendations for clients. Support team expansion as the company scales. Who You Are 5 years of experience with a combination of working in both engineering and AI/ML/Data Science. An engineering background is preferable, such as someone who started as a software engineer and has more lately worked with AI or Data Science. You should know at least one programming language other than SQL, R, Python. Possible experience with containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) or cloud technologies (e.g. AWS services, GCP, Azure) is a plus, but not mandatory. Hands-on experience with Generative AI (GenAI) and LLMs is a big plus, as is a proven track record of leading AI projects and delivering measurable results. Strong grasp of AI trends and technologies, with skills in Python, R, SQL, and frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or LangChain.
