About us At ubank, we want to empower the digital generation to be more successful with money. Think of us more as a daily money companion. One that brings together the ability for customers to see their money in one place, with smart features and real-time insights designed to help them get ahead. With ubank, our customers can discover what it feels like to save more, see exactly where they’re spending and own their own home faster. In short, we want to help them achieve real momentum with money. Your Why The Senior Platform Engineer at ubank is a role responsible for building the core foundations that enable all engineering squads to deliver secure, reliable, observable, and scalable software at speed. Sitting horizontally across tribes and squads, the Platform Engineer operates as both a builder and an enabler—designing reusable frameworks, developer tooling, foundational APIs and platform services, while coaching and unblocking squads on complex architectural and operational challenges. Platform Engineers at this level are trusted technical partners across ubank, known for their breadth of system knowledge, depth in distributed systems, and a pragmatic delivery mindset. How you will spend your time Define standards, tooling, and onboarding support for engineering squads to emit and consume events. Develop and maintain schemas, contracts, observability dashboards, and Kafka tooling to make events easy and safe to adopt. Partner with EM and TLs to define a problem-led, data-informed backlog that focuses on repeatable patterns, reliability risks, and cross-cutting pain points. Platform team operates on high-leverage initiatives with 80/20 mindset, fixing it once for everyone. Actively participate in guilds, standups, post-incident reviews, and retros across the organisation to identify recurring issues and propose foundational solutions. Uphold engineering standards across code quality, documentation, testing, security, and deployment hygiene. Mentor other engineers on platform thinking and scalable design. Design, own, and evolve foundational APIs and platform services that act as the single source of truth for core banking data (e.g., customers, accounts, transactions). These services abstract away vendor-specific complexity and provide consistent, secure, and auditable interfaces to downstream systems. Collaborate across squads and tribes. Champion adoption of platform tools through education, documentation, and guidance. What will you bring Strong hands-on experience in TypeScript/Node.js, RESTful API design, and event-driven architecture (Kafka preferred) Designed or maintained schema-based event systems, including contract validation, versioning, and idempotent delivery Built developer-facing tooling such as CLI utilities, code generators, observability integrations, or CI/CD automations Deep understanding of platform thinking — delivering systems that abstract complexity, promote consistency, and scale with teams Familiarity with monorepos (Nx/Turborepo), GitHub Actions, EKS, IAC (e.g. Terraform/CDK) Experience uplifting observability, including logging, tracing, profiling, and alerting patterns with observability tooling (e.g. Grafana, Sentry) Experience influencing engineering culture or practices 5-8 years of experience in backend or platform engineering roles, including shipping scalable infrastructure and reusable APIs Proven track record in collaborating across product, engineering and delivery teams.
