Role Title: On-Prem Storage Engineer Role Overview: As a Storage Engineer , you will take on a key role in designing, implementing, and managing storage infrastructure . With 4-5 years of experience , you will lead initiatives to optimize storage performance, ensure high availability, and contribute to strategic planning. Additionally, you will provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, helping them develop their skills while ensuring smooth operations. Key Responsibilities: Infrastructure Setup and Strategy: Lead the assessment, design, and implementation of on-premises storage solutions , ensuring alignment with business objectives. Oversee the documentation and review of existing storage systems, identifying areas for improvement and scalability. Develop and maintain storage operations documentation, including System Understanding Documents (SUDs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) . Drive service go-live readiness, ensuring alignment with strategic service plans and schedules . Storage Operations and Administration: Monitor and optimize storage systems for health, performance, and availability. Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of storage-related incidents in both production and non-production environments, minimizing downtime. Oversee storage capacity management, patching, provisioning, and maintenance to support business continuity. Handle escalated storage-related problem tickets and ensure efficient backlog management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate storage solutions into broader infrastructure initiatives. Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior storage engineers. Act as a point of escalation for complex storage issues. Lead knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to skill development within the team. Process Improvement and Automation: Establish and maintain best practices for storage operations . Support initiatives to align storage operations with DevOps and Agile methodologies . Lead efforts to automate storage management and operational tasks using scripting or automation tools. Collaboration and Compliance: Partner with infrastructure teams (compute, network, data center, and cloud) to ensure storage solutions meet overall system needs. Enforce security best practices to maintain compliance with organizational and industry standards. Assist in evaluating storage infrastructure readiness for cloud integration and hybrid storage solutions. Continuous Improvement and Strategic Planning: Stay up to date with emerging storage technologies and industry trends . Propose and implement improvements to existing storage architectures to enhance performance and cost efficiency. Contribute to long-term planning for storage capacity, scalability, and modernization. Qualifications & Experience: 4-5 years of experience in IT infrastructure, with a focus on on-premises storage, SAN, NAS, or backup solutions . Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Leadership Qualities: Experience in mentoring junior engineers and leading small teams or initiatives. Technical Skills: Expertise in HPE, Cisco, Brocade SAN fabrics, Hitachi, HP storage, Nutanix, NetBackup, and HP tape libraries . Strong knowledge of storage provisioning, capacity planning, and performance optimization . Familiarity with hybrid cloud storage solutions and integration with public cloud platforms. Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for storage management. Skills: Strong leadership and mentoring abilities. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Effective communication and stakeholder management . Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement . Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Certifications (Preferred): ITIL v4 certification (or ability to obtain within 8 weeks of joining). Certifications related to HPE, Hitachi, Nutanix, or cloud storage solutions are a plus. Additional Requirements: Security Clearance Requirement : Given the secure nature of this role, we are seeking candidates who are Australian Citizens with an active security clearance or are eligible for obtaining security clearance. This requirement ensures that all team members are cleared to handle sensitive information and contribute to maintaining the highest standards of security in our operations. On-call and Shift Expectations: Our positions are primarily focused on managed services, meaning you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our clients' IT systems (Applications and Infrastructure). Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you may be required to work in shifts to provide continuous support. Additionally, you may need to be on call to address incidents promptly and perform after-hours deployment activities as needed.
