You will contribute independently and/or as a team member on a large international collaborative research project in the Pacific on coastal engineering, especially in relation to nature-based coastal protection and tidal ecosystem restoration. This position will give you the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities by supporting the dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets. You will also have the opportunity to participate in conferences and workshops, assist with the supervision of students, and have active engagement with fellow researchers both at UNSW and overseas. Collaboration and partnership with National partners and United Nations agencies is part of this exciting new project. This role reports to Prof Will Glamore and Dr. Andrew Dansie and has no direct reports. Experience in coastal ecosystems and/or engineering, especially in relation to nature-based coastal protection and tidal ecosystem restoration. Experience designing and testing engineering and environmental solutions using numerical models. High spatial data skills using ArcGIS or similar to integrate large spatial and non-spatial datasets and produce integrated knowledge to inform project activities. Experience in implementing eco-engineering and nature-based solutions, and/or an interest to develop a career in this area. Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments. Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research and conduct independent research with limited supervision. Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity. Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships. Willingness to work as part of an international team and undertake travel overseas as required. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students. An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
